Replacing Pocket Door with Swing Door. This house had an old pocket door into bathroom. Owner wanted it changed to a normal swinging door. Left most of pocket door frame inside wall. Only removed what was needed for new rough opening. NOTE: If installing swing door with hinges on the side of the old "pocket", then do all you can to strengthen that new stud. Maybe insert 2 studs laminated together. Use lots of screws through drywall (they'll be hidden under trim) and use imagination to attach it top & bottom. Also, THE HEIGHT. This pocket door had header set at 82.5 off subfloor, which was perfect for swing door. Most newer pocket doors, you can expect header to be at 84.5, 2 inches high. For this, only cut drywall at new height of 82.5, then slide a 2x4 in and screw it to header to make it now 83 (close enough) or add half inch plywood to make it even closer.
