Take some piano lessons from Scott Houston “The Piano Guy.” In this video, Scott and his guest pianist, Bradley Sowash, demonstrate how to play the Beatles tune, Blackbird.
Bradley starts out by showing you the single note melody line of Blackbird. Then he demonstrates playing the chords used in the song: F, D, Gm, Bb, G7.
Bradley shares that he finds it useful to imagine that he has 3 hands playing the piano—he spreads both hands wide and with the left pinkie plays the bass, right hand plays the melody and the middle fingers fill in with chord tones.
If you are at a loss of what to do, listen to a few recordings of the song either on youtube or itunes. Then try to imitate what you like.
