CVEC is a mandatory tax paid by university students every year during enrolment. For the year 2023/24 the CVEC amounts to 100 euros. This tax is collected by the French government to maintain its CROUS accommodation, university restaurant, cafeteria, sports facilities, medical centres etc. You will be able to avail these services for subsidised rates, for example, a three-course meal at the university restaurant (RU) will only cost 3,30 euros.

Some students are exempted from paying the CVEC, in this case, you can apply for an exemption. Students who are exempted are:
1. refugee students,
2. students benefiting from subsidiary protection and temporary protection,
3. students registered as asylum seekers and having the right to stay on the territory,
4. scholarship holders of the French government and scholarship holders of health and social training in regions
