2. TRANSPLANTATION: நடவு
(i) Transplantation : 'Samba Vedai Pottu'. Transplantation and weeding are done by women. Some times, long ballads on popular themes like the story of Ramayana are also sung.
(ii) Picotta (Yetram) Song : 'Thogai Vadivela'. Two men walk up and down along a horizontal pole tied crosswise to another vertical structure; at one end of the pole is a big bucket which is handled by another man down below to bale out water. There is no rythmic motion in the song sung during this operation, but it records the number of buckets baled out in tens. The men on the pole and the one below sing in turns.
(iii) Praise of the village : 'Niththam Nitham Nelluchchoru'. This song presents an imaginary picture of the village 'Alampatti'.
