Also excellent with crepes, souffles and white meat. The quality of the 2018 vintage is good, the quantity excellent, with a 25% increase in production compared to 2017 thanks to a favorable climatic trend. Straw yellow color tending to golden with age. Fine, penetrating, fresh, fruity bouquet and a delicate, fruity flavor with a characteristic bitterish aftertaste. Area of Production: The production area is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with rather dry summers, not particularly harsh winters and rainfall concentrated in two periods: April/May and November, with temperatures varying from -5°C to +37°C. The area benefits from good ventilation all year round and only rarely is it cloaked in fog. The San Gimignano area is very well suited to wine growing. The main appellation is Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, flanked by San Gimignano Doc. These two wines are specific to the territory. There are also vineyards for the production of Chianti, Chianti Colli Senesi and IGT Toscana. Grapes: Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a grape variety which was first cultivated on the hills of San Gimignano in clay schist soils dating back to the Pliocene era. It was the first grape variety to be awarded, in 1966, the Denomination of Controlled Origin and in 1993, the D.O.C.G. Vernaccia-based wine from San Gimignano has a long history, and since the Renaissance period has been considered one of Italy’s oldest and most noble wines. Its fame has no doubt been strongly connected to its region of origin, San Gimignano – an ancient Tuscan town famed for its medieval towers.
