Today’s video will hopefully teach you to go beyond your perceived reach and start knowing your true extension.

Short climbers are the ones I see who have the best use of their reach, that’s because they have to. And short climbers also tend to be more dynamic and have incredible core control.

This is to make up for their lack of physical reach.

Yes, size makes a huge difference in send-abilty of a climb. But it doesn’t have to stop you from making big moves if you are on the smaller side, and it shouldn’t always be used as the main reason not to make a move.

When we review videos of our athletes, it’s often the lack of extension in the move that is keeping them from reaching or holding the next move. Once the athlete identifies this, they can make faster gains on their climbs.

I still need a reminder to push to full extension on bigger moves.

After a good warm-up, you can practice this drill. Give yourself a time limit, such as 5-10 minutes of practice. Don't worry so much about reps; focus more on quality and intention. Do this once a week, but have the intention on every big move to reach to full extension.
