Chris Crowe presents the exciting idea of Panspermia, a theory for the origin of Life on Earth. Recent research has shown it is possible and increasingly likely that life on Earth began via microbes and extremophiles that migrated between planets to distribute life around the Universe via space dust, meteoroids, asteroids, comets, planetoids, and also by spacecraft carrying unintended contamination by microorganisms, including spacecraft sent from Earth to Mars. In his talk, Chris reviews the scientific rationale behind the idea, and explores how this model is far from Science Fiction. Chris is an astrophysicist, a
teacher, and public lecturer. A
Fellow of the Royal Astronomical
Society, he works as Head of
Astronomy at Harrow School,
teaching Astronomy, Physics,
Engineering and Computer
Science. Chris received Masters’
degrees in both Theoretical
Physics and Mathematics before
completing a PhD in Astrophysics, affording him the opportunity to
be part of a research team
studying relic radiation from the
Big Bang, and working in the
same department as the late
Professor Stephen Hawking. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
