In this video, we will cover the basics of Kaeshi Do and give you tips on how to improve it. We'll cover the hand motions, timing of footwork, and using your body to catch your opponent's shinai as far away from you as possible. Learn how to avoid pulling your arms back and instead treat it like a regular swing with a slight angle to steer the shinai around.
You'll also discover why timing of footwork is critical when doing Kaeshi Do and the common mistakes people make with their hands. Learn how to progress into a fluid Kaeshi Do by breaking down the three stages of catching, rotating, and striking, and putting them all together. But, most importantly, learn how not to wait and to practice putting pressure on your opponent to provoke them to attack.
