Kenyans are marking the 34th anniversary of Saba Saba Day - when people staged nationwide protests demanding free and fair elections.
It was a pivotal moment that ended single-party rule in Kenya.
Activists are drawing parallels between the events of 1990 to recent demonstrations against now-abandoned tax rises, which left 39 people dead in a violent police crackdown.
