Disney's Big Mistake: Tearing Out the River

During D23 in 2024, Disney announced many changes coming to the parks, many of which I took negatively because of how they alter or replace areas and attractions that I think are important to the parks, even if they're not the most popular. In the case of Magic Kingdom, Disney announced a new Cars attraction for Frontierland, which will also have a Disney themed Villains Land likely located directly behind it. However, in addition to Cars have no thematic tie to Frontierland, it was later revealed that it would replace the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, loses which I think are major for the park. That might seem odd, but today, I discuss these plans and Tom Sawyer Island in depth, highlighting why losing the atmosphere of the river is important and why low demand capacity like the island is crucial to a positive park experience.
