A general overview of the Book of Joshua is the story of the Israelite invasion of the promised land of Canaan under the leadership of Joshua, the successor to Moses.  Notable events recorded in the book include the following:

1) The crossing of the river Jordan into the land of Canaan
2) The invasion and conquest of the city of Jericho
3) The battle for the city of Ai
4) The renewal of the covenant between God and His people

Two of the more popular verse from this book amongst Christians are:

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  (Joshua 1:8-9)

"And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  (Joshua 24:15)
