In this talk, we explore the left ventricle's crucial role in distributing oxygenated blood throughout the body. We delve into the anatomy of the left ventricle, explaining its function during systole and diastole. Our discussion covers various causes of left-sided heart failure, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and valvular disease, detailing how these conditions affect the heart's ability to pump effectively. Compensatory responses like left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular dilation are explained, outlining how they initially aid cardiac function but can eventually lead to heart failure if the root cause isn't addressed. We highlight methods for identifying these changes on CT imaging, and emphasize the importance of early detection and treatment to prevent the progression of heart failure and its associated complications.
