When a network administrator or network engineer has a strong sense of those categories, they can create meaningful solutions that actually accomplish the desired result — and that means better networks. When a network has great security controls in place, you get Data C.I.A.: it's Confidential, its Integrity is maintained, and it's Available. But there are so many different control types, it can feel like knowing them all takes specialized training with years of experience. But that's not the case: Keith breaks down the simple categorizations that security controls fall into. Security controls themselves fall into three categories: physical — like preventing someone from getting into a building, administrative — like doing background checks, and technical (or logical) — like the actual NATs or ACLs. And the actual functions of those controls have four categories: preventative (avoid it before it happens), detective (find the problems where they are), deterrent (discourage problems), and recovery (or corrective/compensating). 🔒 Download the Free Ultimate Security Cert Guide: blog.cbt.gg/8vl5 ⬇️ 15-Week Study Plan: CCNP Security Core (350-701 SCOR): blog.cbt.gg/s73v Start learning with CBT Nuggets: • Information Security | courses.cbt.gg/463 • Cisco CCNA Security (210-260 IINS) | courses.cbt.gg/r6n • CompTIA Security+ (SY0-501) | courses.cbt.gg/c26 • Cisco CCNP Security | courses.cbt.gg/6t4
