"Aiko Kayama, a professor of international politics at Tokyo University discusses the political tensions between North Korea and the United States with montage sequences comprised of stock footage from international media, the Korean War, and the war in Iraq. Just as Kim Jong Il has inherited his father's mantle, Aiko inherits her father's view that Pyongyang is the center of world history. While the film narrates the injustice of Japanese imperialism, its rhetoric of world history and subjective humanism is reminiscent of the Japanese empire. The inclusion of international media in a feature film that plays on television suggests North Koreans' growing access to such media sources." - Travis Workman
