Mammoth Wasp (Megascolia maculata flavifrons) in France 2

Mammoth Wasp (Megascolia maculata flavifrons) in Lit et Mixe, Southern France in August 2013. We assumed it was an Asian Giant Hornet at the time! This is Europe's largest species of wasp and lays it's eggs on the larvae of the European Rhinoceros Beetle (Oryctes nasicornis). Correctly identified thanks to comments by a viewer.
