St Augustine of Hippo (354-430) was a theologian, philosopher, and bishop. His teachings influenced many of the development of Western philosophy and the Roman Catholic Church. He is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers. Augustine's youth, however, was far from holy. Despite being raised in the Christian faith by his devout mother, St Monica, Augustine followed the Manichaean faith, and later the philosophy of Neoplatonism. He had also lived an impure life which resulted in having a son outside of wedlock: Adeodatus. He was consumed with pride and always wanted to be number one, even in the case of evil. At around the age of 29, Augustine moved to Italy. After some hardship that he encountered in Rome, he moved to Milan and met with St Ambrose. The holiness of the bishop attracted him, so he started to come to his preaching regularly. One day, he heard some children playing and chanting "Tolle lege! Tolle lege!", which means "Take up and read!". At first, he was going to dismiss it as just children playing, but then he felt that it might be God's calling. He picked up the Bible and read Romans 13:13–14. At this moment, his eyes were opened and had a moment of Divine grace that led to his conversion. On Easter 387, Augustine, his son, and his friend were baptised by St Ambrose. Many attributed the conversion of Augustine to his mother. St Monica never gave up on her son. She prayed constantly for the salvation of his soul. She even kicked him out of her house in the hope that he would return willingly to his real house, the Christian Faith. During his lifetime as a bishop, St Augustine fought many heresies such as Donatism, Pelagianism, and Arianism. He also has an interesting relationship with St Jerome in which it seems they hated each other. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lyrics by: Milites Ecclessiae & St Augustine Music made in: https://www.udio.com/ Video made in: https://vizzy.io Tags: #doommetal, #saintsmetal, #catholic, #CatholicMetal, #AI-generated, #christianmetal, #melodicmetal, #augustine, #patristicfathers.
