TRAIN SUITE Shikishima is a cruise train operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The concept of the journey is "Shin-yu-tanbo" (deep exploration).
The train name "Shikishima" is a homonym for the old Japanese country name "Shikishima," and was named to evoke a journey through the beautiful four seasons and traditions, and to express the idea of a train that enjoys the changing of time and space.

The exterior design is designed in such a way that the floor plan and window shapes are symbolic of the experience of loving the scenery, talking with people, and relaxing in comfort, and the exterior design foreshadows this. The interior design of the car is based on the concept of not only looking back at traditional culture but also designing the Japanese culture of the future. The texture and properties of traditional Japanese materials such as wood, metal, lacquer, and Japanese paper are utilized for their actual functions and needs, and by combining them and blending their colors, The design of the car is intended to evoke new discoveries and a sense of the extraordinary. Each space in the car is based on the theme of the four seasons, with the observation deck in the first car being spring, the lounge in Car 5 being summer, the dining room in Car 6 being autumn, and the private rooms in each car being winter. The exterior is painted "Shikijima Gold," a specially formulated color for Shikijima based on champagne gold, with the leading edge of the observation car and the entrance door of the No. 5 lounge car painted black.
