Rear lower control arm failures are common on the Tesla Model S -- there's even a TSB for 2013-14 models -- and they will leave you stranded. Fortunately, mine broke close to home and I was able to replace both in my garage, though the parts are expensive and the repair is moderately difficult. Here's how to do it.

UPDATE: For those curious about the differences between old/new parts --  according to "Engunnear" on Reddit, a self-described engineer for "Tier 1 automotive suppliers" for 20 years:
"Those "risers" are ejector bosses. They're from the tool features that push the cast part out of the tool. It looks like the original part was sand cast, and the new one is die cast."
