On January 30, 2024, Carolyn Ball presented "How Nonprofits Work". Nonprofits are sometimes called the third sector or the independent sector. They range from huge organizations such as hospitals to small organizations run completely by volunteers.  You probably use the services of a nonprofit or even donate to a nonprofit but don’t really know how they differ from the private or public sector.  We’ll take a look at how they differ, how they are formed, and how they are managed.

Carolyn Ball, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus at the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine.  She continues to teach courses in government and nonprofit management. This semester she will teach a class on performance measurement, a complex system of rewards, interventions, and collaboration among teams, leaders, and the organization. Carolyn has both worked and volunteered for nonprofits.
