It's been a hot year for Tien Tzuo: Between Zuora's IPO this year, and the release of his new book a few months ago. His company Zuora has become the leading Subscription Economy evangelist, allowing any company to successfully launch, manage, and transform into a subscription business.

What you may not know, is that it all started in a tiny office in Mountainview, where Tien and his cofounders started one of the first businesses with the idea to sell services instead of products. It was a new idea at the time, and they literally coined the term "Subscription Economy".

In the old world - let’s call it the Product Economy - it was all about things. Acquiring new customers, shipping commodities, billing for one-time transactions. But in this new era, it’s all about relationships. More and more customers are becoming subscribers because subscription experiences built around services meet consumers’ needs better than the static offerings or a single product.

And it works. Since its launch in 2007, Zuora has raised almost $250M, gathered over 900 customers, employed 850+ people throughout throughout North America, Europe, China, India, Japan, and Australia.
