Ahhh the pashmina scarf. There are probably more look-alikes than authentic ones out there. Wandering Old Delhi one day - an opportunity to learn a little presented itself.
We met Farooq through our rough-guide Gabar. He's a dealer in Kashmiri pasminas and rugs, who maintains his shop in a portion of his home. He was kind enough to show us both. Every question about the way a home is built in Old Delhi was answered. After some tea he showed us the good stuff. We learned more about pashmina in that afternoon than we thought there was to know. Being able to actually feel the types of wool side by side made all the difference.
It was wonderful to meet someone so proud of his craft. Although his shop may seem small, businesses like this in Old Delhi are just the "face" for larger family networks of manufacturing and distribution. He and his son were perfect hosts and never pressured us to buy anything. A "through-the-power-of-internet" Thank You to you Farooq.
