This is a very typical case of LASIK performed to both eyes of my patient. The patient is a 45 year old male who has had a lifelong battle with contact lenses and glasses. He enjoys the outdoors and sports. The LASIK surgery is often performed on both eyes on the same day. As you can see and hear, he is completely awake and comfortable. You should be able to hear our conversation throughout the procedure. The background noise is from a combination of the laser, power generator and temperature control unit. The power generator is always available in the unlikely event of a power outage. I use topical numbing drops called Proparacaine. In this patient, the "hinge" of the corneal flap is easily demonstrated. I have had the procedure previously and there is really no pain. The eye must be pressurized to precisely cut the flap. You will notice that the flap has a "hinge" on the nasal side to allow proper re-orientation after the laser ablation of the cornea is completed. I have an excimer laser in each of my 3 locations. This is the EX500 and it is exceptional. If you have questions or comments, please visit my website or give us a call!
