Hippos have had 55 million years to evolve into the amphibious semiaquatic mammal we know today. They can reach speeds of up to 5 miles an hour on the river bed but unlike crocodiles, they can’t swim. On the other hand, crocodiles have had 70 million years of evolution, making them the most advanced reptiles on the planet. A clash for the best spot on the river frontage is inevitable.
