Jules Fainzang, déporté de France au camp d’Auschwitz-Birkenau

Jules Fainzang a été arrêté et interné au camp de Septfonds à l’âge de 20 ans. Il est transféré au camp de Drancy au mois d’août 1942. Jules est déporté par le convoi 25 parti le 28 août 1942 du camp de Drancy à destination du camp d’Auschwitz-Birkenau. Jules est affecté dans divers Kommandos et transférés dans de nombreux camps : Sakrau, Siemianowice et Blechhammer. En janvier 1945 il est transféré, à pied, du camp de Blechhammer au camp de Gross-Rosen. Il est ensuite déporté au camp de Buchenwald en train. Jules s’évade avec son ami Walter Spitzer, grâce à l’aide d’un kapo allemand. Tous deux intègrent alors l’armée américaine jusqu’en juillet 1945. Jules rentre alors à Moissac où il retrouve ses frères et sœurs ayant survécu à la guerre.

Jules Fainzang, deported from France to Auschwitz-Birkenau camp

Jules Fainzang was 20 years old when he was arrested and interned at the Septfonds camp. He was transferred to the Drancy camp in August 1942. Jules was deported by convoy 25, which left the Drancy camp on August 28, 1942 for Auschwitz-Birkenau. Jules was assigned to various Kommandos and transferred to several camps: Sakrau, Siemianowice and Blechhammer. In January 1945, he was transferred on foot from the Blechhammer camp to the Gross-Rosen camp. He was then deported by train to the Buchenwald camp. Jules escapes with his friend Walter Spitzer and the help of a German kapo. Both joined the US Army until July 1945. Jules then returned to Moissac, where he was reunited with his brothers and sisters who had survived the war.  
This testimony was collected by the Mémorial de la Shoah in 2004.
