U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer

Marcia Franklin talks with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer about his newest book at the time, "Active Liberty: Interpreting Our Democratic Constitution." In it, Justice Breyer lays out his judicial philosophy: that judges should decide cases in a way that allows the public to maximize participation in government through what he calls "active liberty."

The interview was recorded at the 2006 Sun Valley Writers' Conference.
Justice Breyer served on the high court from 1994 to his retirement in 2022.
