With the Battle of Verdun, much attention is given to the fight that took place on the eastern side of the Meuse River. But there was a vicious contest for the high ground on what was called the "Left Bank". One of the most hotly contested places that saw unspeakable carnage was aptly named "Mort Homme" or "The Hill of the Dead Man."
