In this video, young mechanic Aiman will show you how to remove and re-install the upper engine cover for Hyundai Santa Fe model years 2002 2003 2004 2005 & 2006 2.7L GLS 24V DOHC.  Removal, replacement and installation of this cosmetic engine cover is a fairly simple, easy, straightforward process and requires minimal tools.

The Hyundai Santa Fe (Korean: 현대 싼타페) is a sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2000. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV. Between 2006 and 2012, the Santa Fe was positioned between the smaller Tucson compact crossover and the larger Veracruz.

The third-generation Santa Fe introduced in 2012 was available in two versions, which are regular (short) and extended long-wheelbase version. The short model was sold as the Santa Fe Sport in North America (three-row seating was not available) and simply Santa Fe in global markets (three-row seating was standard or optional), while the extended long-wheelbase model is called the Santa Fe in North America and called the Hyundai Maxcruz in South Korea.

Santa Fes came with front-wheel drive or permanently engaged four-wheel drive. The base GL model used the Sonata sedan’s four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, or an optional automatic transmission with Hyundai’s Shiftronic manual shift gate. Automatic was the sole choice for the GL V6, the GLS, and the top-of-the-line LX, which used a version of the Sonata’s V6.

The fourth-generation Santa Fe has been slotted between the Tucson and the Palisade, with the latter being the replacement of the long-wheelbase Santa Fe.

While we're on the subject of "cover", if you own a 2001 through 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe more than likely you have driven or are approaching 100,000 miles. This is the perfect time to change the valve cover gasket. Performing this maintenance will possibly prevent an oil leak and a smoking engine.

Step 1
Allow the engine to cool. Lift the hood. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air duct and the engine cover. Disconnect the AFS connector.

Step 2
Remove the breather hose and the PCV (Positive Crankcase ventilation) hose. Disconnect the breather hose from air cleaner hose. Remove the air cleaner assembly and the intake air hose, the spark plug wires and the valve cover. Using the spark plug tool remove the spark plugs.

Step 3
Place the new valve cover gasket into the gasket seating area. Apply liquid gasket to the head cover gasket at the corners of the recess. Install the valve cover and using a torque wrench tighten the bolts in sequence.

Using the spark plug tool, put the new spark plugs in. Reconnect the spark plug wires and the breather hose from air cleaner hose. Reconnect the PCV (Positive Crankcase ventilation) hose and breather hose. Reconnect the AFS connector. Reinstall the intake air hose and air cleaner assembly and the engine cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal. Reinstall the air duct.

Obviously, Aiman's auto repair videos are mostly designed for entertainment purposes.  Aiman is not a professional and not a certified ASE mechanic.  If you're looking for instructions or steps on how to fix or diagnose problems with your car, SUV, minivan or vehicle repair, how to remove, replace or install parts, you should always watch more than just one videos.  The videos should always be used only as a guide.  Manufacturers always recommend using genuine OEM parts but sometimes cheaper aftermarket can be as good as the originals.
