Remembering 'Lok Nayak' Jayaprakash: The Bihar Revolution, Fall of Indira and Birth of BJP

Jayaprakash Narayan, fondly known as JP, was a freedom fighter, a politician, a socialist, a reformist and an anti-corruption crusader who fought for India's freedom, twice. Once when he rekindled a dying ‘Quit India movement’ and then, years later, to overthrow the Indira Gandhi-led government.

He earned the title 'Lok Nayak' or People's Leader. He went on to inspire several leaders who are now stalwarts in Indian politics – Lalu Prasad, Nitish Kumar, Mulayam Singh, VP Singh. Even today, JP and the values he stood for serve as a constant reminder of the freedom struggle and the spirit of democracy – something he fought for, all his life.
