University of Virginia law professor Risa Goluboff discusses civil rights history, the landmark Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education, and the impact of the court's 1955 decision in "Brown II," which ordered that segregated school systems should be dismantled with "all deliberate speed." UVA Law graduate E. Barrett Prettyman Jr. '53 clerked for Justice Robert H. Jackson at the time Brown II was decided. His papers, including memos related to the decision, are maintained in the Special Collections Department of the University of Virginia Law Library.
