Icons of the South West
The GWR Castle Class HST's, aka Pocket Rockets, have become an icon of the Cornish rail-scene. Formed out of 2 Class 43 power cars and 4 Mk.3 coaches, they have become excellent, long distance commuter trains. However, with GWR retiring their Castle Class sets after 5 years of service, it's time to get the compilation in, before they go. Fortunately, Castles are rostered on the summer timetable, which runs from June to September 24, so my advice would be to get the photos in now! On occasion, the HSTs have substituted on for Class 150s, as seen in two clips on the Newquay Branch. Filmed over 9 evenings and 1 day out, this film is one of the best I've ever made.
