Member of European Parliament Liadh Ní Riada went on a language strike during Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language Week) over the derogation of Irish in the EU and Irish institutions.
Irish is a full official language of the EU but the deragotaion (Council Regulation No 920/2005 of 13 June 2005) states that ‘the institutions of the European Union shall not be bound by the obligation to draft all acts in Irish and to publish them in that language in the Official Journal of the European Union’.
