Hurricane Matthew Footage from Florida to North Carolina starting the morning of the 6th to the evening of the 9th of October 2016. Footage shot by Meteorologist Simon Brewer as he moved up the coast following numerous close encounters with the eyewall of Hurricane Matthew. 1st Segment: morning 6th of October Matthew is a Category 4 hurricane passing through the northwestern Bahamas. Footage from Fort Pierce, FL shows strong cells embedded in a feeder band comes onshore bringing high winds and heavy rain. 2nd Segment: afternoon of the 6th Footage of more feeder bands hitting Jupiter, FL with large waves, beach erosion, and high winds. 3rd Segment: night of 6th Back in Fort Pierce; footage of high winds, heavy rain, and powerflashes. 4th Segment: early morning hours of 7th The East Coast experiences the highest winds from Matthew as it makes a close approach to the Space Coast of Florida. Footage of more powerflashes,, some storm surge with waves, and the highest sustained winds and gusts documented during the entire event over Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, FL. 5th Segment: Afternoon of 7th Eyewall of Matthew moves onshore north of Cape Canaveral. Footage of storm surge flooding, high winds, and wind damage in Daytona Beach, FL. 6th Segment: Evening of the 7th Hurricane Matthew caused significant storm surge flooding from Daytona Beach up through Jacksonville, FL as it moved up the coast. Simon moved north with it toward South Carolina driving through Georgia on I-95. Footage from Savannah, GA shows high winds and heavy rain as Simon drives toward Charleston, SC. 7th Segment: early morning hours of the 8th Hurricane Matthew is moving up South Carolina Coast and onshore winds are pushing a large storm surge into the Charleston area. High winds are downing large pine trees on most major highways in the region making driving very dangerous. Footage of a large tractor trailer accident from a falling tree on I-95 and storm surge flooding in Charleston, SC. 8th Segment: afternoon-evening of the 8th Hurricane Matthew interacts with a cold front boundary over the Carolinas, which enhances convection. This increase in convection releases a significant amount of latent heat into the storm, which increases the pressure gradient and winds over the Myrtle Beach, SC area. Footage of high winds, wind damage, and fresh water flooding over the Myrtle Beach area. 9th Segment: late night of the 8th Footage from Wrightsville Beach, NC as the eye of Matthew passes to the east. Shows high winds, more powerflashes, and flickering house lights by nearby powerline. 10th Segment: morning of the 9th Matthew is passing by the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Simon tries to reach Duck, NC but is turned around by a rising storm surge in the community of East Lake. Footage of waves hitting end of causeway, water-covered roads from storm surge, flooded community of East Lake. 11th Segment: evening of the 9th Hurricane Matthew is no extra-tropical and moved off the coast. Behind the skies are crystal clear, but the heavy rainfall is causing historic widespread river and creek flooding. Footage from Rocky Mount, NC shows flooded homes and businesses, flooded cars, high rivers, and an adventurous jeep plowing through a flooded highway.
