Wild You Were Sleeping Episode 2: Meet the Greater Adjutant Stork | The Quint

Standing at five feet tall with a wingspan of about eight feet, the Greater Adjutant Stork has now become rare but was once found in abundance across south-east Asia. These large-sized carnivorous birds are scavengers within their respective ecosystem, with a unique ability to swallow big bones as a whole, giving them their Assamese name Hargila (har means bone, gila is to swallow). Having fallen prey to human encroachment into wetlands, this endangered bird is now found breeding only in India and Cambodia.
