A Farewell to Superintendent Gothard

Dr. Joe Gothard has been superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools since 2017, leading the district in meeting the needs of students and families, prioritizing fiscal sustainability, and championing equity and community well-being. He launched the SPPS Achieves strategic plan in 2018, led the district’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and in 2024 was named Minnesota Superintendent of the Year by the MASA and National Superintendent of the Year by the AASA.
