Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and the second largest in Canada by population. Montreal is a city full of life and history and it is truly reflected in its food scene and this is why we are taking you on a Montreal food tour!
Today, we take you around 8 must eat restaurants in Montreal, some which opened in the early 1900's and become true institutions after serving Montrealers for over 100 years!
Our journey starts like any day with breakfast and there is no better place for an authentic Quebec breakfast than at La Binerie Mont-Royal known for their baked beans known in Montreal as "fèves au lard".
From there, we drove to a personal favorite of mine, A place my dad took me dozens of times as a kid which is Dic Anns' known for their flat hamburgers with a secret sauce. When visiting ask for a cheeseburger, extra sauce!
Up next, made our way to Rachel Street for Canada's most famous food, poutine. Depending on who you asked, everyone in Quebec had their favorite spot for poutine but for me, there si no other place than La Banquise.
If you've heard of Montreal, you probably heard of Montreal smoked meat, the city's most famous sandwich. And for the perfect smoked meat and pickles, you have to go to Schwartz's Deli. Yes, there will be a line out the door but it it worth it every single time.
Have you ever seen a giant orange? If not, it's your lucky day because Montreal if home of the now famous Gibeau Orange Julep, a fast-food restaurant shaped like the fruit serving a very special orange juice worth tasting.
I bet you never tried a none grilled hot dog or as we called them in Montreal, a Steamy! This is why you need to do a quick stop at the Montreal Pool Room located downtown Montreal. You'll be in and out of this joint in just a few minutes.
My dad and I have an all time favorite restaurant in Montreal which is most likely the most famous Montreal institution, a place called Wilensky's Light Lunch. Walking into this deli takes you back in the 1950's since they literally didn't change anything since then. Ask for a special and don't even think about asking for no mustard because they simply won't do it! Their very popular cherry soda is also a must.
At this point you'll most likely won't be hungry anymore so just walk about 100m from Wilensky and stop at Fairmount Bagel for the best bagels in Montreal. The good news is that you can take them to go and eat them for breakfast... Tomorrow!
