Reducing sugars are those carbohydrates that have the ability to reduce other chemical substances and get oxidized.
A reducing sugar must have a free aldehyde or keto group at the anomeric carbon.
examples of reducing sugars are lactose, galactose, Maltose and glucose.
while non Reducing Sugars don't have free aldehyde or keto group e.g sucrose.
Fehling's and Benedict tests are used for identification of reducing sugars in which these sugar reduce cupric ions into cuprous ions and turn the blue Color into reddish brown.
