In the summer of 2022, my good friend Chef Jason Peru—one of the top chefs in Trinidad and Tobago—and his girlfriend, celebrity hairstylist Candice Mohan, came up to my hometown of Miami for a few days. So, naturally, after they’d shown me around Trididad and Tobago, I knew I had to take them to my favorite spots in Miami! Come with us on my full 96-hour food journey with Chef Jason Peru in Miami!

Our first stop was at 107 Taste, a spot in West Brickell that offers Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai cuisine. After meeting Vanessa inside and watching them make everything from shrimp pad thai to tteokbokki to tonkatsu ramen in the kitchen, it was time to dive into our Asian fusion feast!

We started with the fluffy, freshm and tender Chinese braised pork buns, which soaked up all the soy sauce! Next was a spicy and fermented kimchi, a velvety and savory Takoyaki, and a creamy pad Thai with lots of sprouts! The tteokbokki was glutinous, dense, spicy, creamy, and a little sweet, while the bibimbap was nice and filling!

I also loved the refreshing taro boba, the hot Hell’s ramen, the crispy tempura shrimp, and the decadent Zombie Cake and Nutella crepe cake!

Next, we headed over to Naomi’s Garden for some Haitian food! The spinach stew was creamy and legume (veg stew) were flavorful veg dishes, and the jerk chicken was ultra tender! I also couldn’t get enough of the oxtail, spicy cabbage salad, baked chicken epis, the grainy mayi kolé, and the fried plantains!

The spaghetti with andouille and hot dogs was great, as was the fried grouper filet!

At BBQ & Craft Company in Brickell, we dove into dry rub wings, dinosaur beef ribs, New York strip, pork chop, crispy St. Louis ribs, deviled eggs, mac & cheese, fingerling potatoes, and heirloom carrots. The smoky wings and caramelized St. Louis ribs blew my mind, while the dinosaur beef ribs were straight out of a meat lover’s dream.

I loved the rich mac & cheese, the brisket, and the pork chop with apple chutney. The chocolate pecan pie, Nutella banana pudding, and salt caramel whiskey were also rich and flavorful!

Our final stop was a Sergio’s, one of the top Cuban restaurants in Miami. The chicharron there is meaty, juicy, and crispy. I loved the two croquetas, which were both golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside.

The tequeños are the perfect fried cheese stick, while the pandebono is an amazing Colombian cheese bread. The buttery pastel de guayaba is the perfect sweet treat, while the empanada de carne molida and empanada de pollo were flaky, golden brown, and packed with delicious filling.

The empanada de espinaca had tons of spinach inside. But the Cuban sandwich, pan con bistec, Abuela French toast, and tortilla egg omelet took the cake. I loved the thinly-cut steak in the pan con bistec and the roasted pork, ham, and gruyere cheese in the Cuban sandwich.

The bananas, nuts, toasted coconut, and guava syrup in the Abuela French toast blew me away. The sweet guava syrup and toasted coconut took it to a whole new level!

And that’s my 96-hour food adventure in Miami with Chef Jason Peru and celebrity hairstylist Candice Mohan! I hope it inspires you to hit up some of these amazing spots the next time you come to Miami!
