Bilateral summits can provide a deeper insight into the kind of personal relationship the leaders might have.
Certain moments over the years received extra attention.
Kim Bo-kyoung sheds light on some of them.
South Korea and the United States have had 72 bilateral summits so far... the first coming in 1952 when then-U.S. President-elect Dwight Eisenhower visited South Korea to meet Rhee Syng-man, who was South Korea's president at the time.
There have been many interesting scenes during those 72 summits.
The first summit between former presidents Kim Young-sam and Bill Clinton took place in July 1993.
During that meeting,... it is said that golf-lover Clinton asked Kim to play some golf,... but instead, Kim suggested they go jogging.
They jogged for about 15 minutes around Nokjiwon,... the most beautiful garden inside the compound of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.
Former presidents Roh Moo-hyun and George W. Bush had their first face-to-face meeting in May 2003.
Known for being of same age, both born in 1946,... they shared heartfelt greetings, shattering the prejudice that the two presidents from opposite ends of the political spectrum would have quite bumpy meetings.
In April 2008,... the summit between former presidents Lee Myung-bak and George W. Bush featured a memorable scene.
Lee was the first South Korean president to visit the U.S. presidential retreat Camp David,... about 100 kilometers north of Washington.
There,... Lee drove a golf cart to the cabin, with Bush sat in the passenger's seat.
Lee later said that he was the one who suggested he would drive.
Last but not least,... a little more than a month after former President Moon Jae-in took office,... he visited the U.S. in June 2017 to have talks with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
After the dinner ended, Trump unexpectedly offered Moon and his wife a tour of the Treaty Room, his official residence, and the Lincoln Bedroom,... a Victorian style guest room where former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address is on display.
Trump himself guided them and nobody accompanied them except the interpreters.
