In the wake of the Casey review, the Met’s continuous failings to root out the bad apples of the institution have come to light. The review highlighted how the vetting process for both new recruits and basic vetting checks once in the force have been of poor standard.

The known toxic culture embedded in the Metropolitan police leads to a knock on effect of problems. One of which is the task of vetting out the officers who are using their position in power to abuse victims. Disgraced former Met police officers, Wayne Couzens and David Carrick are key examples of two men who used their badge to control and coerce their victims.
