Each morning, Delhi does what she has done for well over a thousand years. Wake up and get right to business. Moments after the morning call, the streets jump into action. You can almost smell the morning Chai Tea and Indian street food in the air. Along with the usual Old Delhi aromas..
This was shot on a stroll around the Chandni Chowk area, near Lahore Gate. We stayed 6 nights in this part of Old Delhi at a very nice budget hotel called Hotel Tara Palace. If you want to REALLY have access to Chandni Chowk - I highly recommend it.
Being up (jet lag) and on the streets by 6 a.m. gave me a level of "real deal" that I've not been able to capture in my travels since. This is the India that sneaks into my dreams. This is the India I get a whiff of on the streets, when the right combo of exhaust, hot oil and humanity hits my nose. If you are interested in seeing it for yourself someday - the "video location" for this footage is EXACTLY where the oxcart footage was shot.
