Making Horehound Cough Drops.

Making horehound cough drops in the most basic of settings.

1 oz.  Dried Horehound
2 1/2 cups water
6 1 inch pieces of lemon peal
1/2 cup honey.
2lbs of brown sugar.

Take horehound and lemon peal and put in cheese cloth. Boil the water and turn off, then add the horehound herb ball to the hot water. Let steep 30 mins. Remove horehound ball and squeeze out. Add sugar and honey to the horehound tea. Bring mixture to 265 degrees, stirring often. Remove from heat if it wants to boil over. When 265 is reached drip some into cold water. It should form a hard ball. Then transfer to a grease parchment paper lined cake pan or cookie sheet. Let cool down then score into small pieces. When brittle enough brake at the score marks and drop in powdered sugar. When all pieces are coated in powdered sugar place in sealed jars for storage. These are stronger then regular horehound candy.
