The first production engine with the Common Rail fuel system appeared in 1997 on the Alfa Romeo 156. It was an 8-valve 1.9 JTD turbodiesel, which was produced from 1997 to 2005. In 2002, Italians introduced a modernized 1.9 JTD engine with a 16-valve block head.

We disassembled the 16-valve version of the JTD engine, taken from the 2004 Alfa Romeo 147 with a mileage of 160,000 km. In principle, the same 16-valve diesel was installed on numerous Opel, Saab and Cadillac models, on which it is known as 1.9 CDTi or 1.9 TiD.
