The Toyota Prius was the first mass-production hybrid, but does the Hyundai Ioniq do it better? With about 63km of all-electric range in Ioniq Plug-In form, the PHEV version of this hatchback offers the ability to dip a toe into EV motoring but still with a backup petrol engine aboard for a huge total range. Is the PHEV the Ioniq to buy, or does the full Electric or conventional Hybrid versions make more sense?

Or, of course … you could wait for the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 – the new full BEV that takes the Ioniq name and applies it to a much bigger and more capable range of vehicles.
