The truckers or trucker's hitch is also known as the truckies hitch, the wagoners hitch, dolly knot, van drivers knot, lorrymans hitch knot, lorry drivers knot, hay haulers knot and the power cinch knot. It is useful for tying down loads because it utilizes a mechanical advantage to get extra tension on the rope. It basically creates a simple rope pulley to tighten the rope. There are many versions. It is shown here using a clove hitch to start but you can begin by using any hitching knot with which you are familiar.
It makes a great tie down knot for trailers. Done in smaller stuff like paracord it can be used to make tight a tight ridge line or clothesline knot.
