Negative thinking can have a profound impact on OCD symptoms. OCD, or obsessive-compulsive disorder, is a mental health condition characterized by persistent and unwanted thoughts, urges, or images (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety or preventing harm. Negative thinking can fuel these obsessions and compulsions, making them more intense and harder to control.

For instance, negative thinking patterns such as catastrophizing (assuming the worst possible outcome will happen), black-and-white thinking (seeing things as all good or all bad, with no middle ground), and perfectionism (setting unrealistic expectations for oneself) can trigger and reinforce OCD symptoms.
