**UPDATE ON CHANGING OIL
I spoke to Curtis about changing the oil in the pump after every use, and he informed me that when these pumps are used in the HVAC industry, the oil contaminated quickly when used for that purpose due to water condensing in the oil.
As long as you are drying your wood properly (hopefully around 0% moisture content), the oil shouldn't get contaminated as quickly. When the oil gets mucked up, it will cause a drop in vacuum. So the best thing to do is note what the full vacuum level (Hg) your pump pulls when the oil is brand new. When you aren't getting a full vacuum pull, it's time to change the oil, and the vacuum draw will go back up.**
In this video I explain why I upgraded to the Robinair 15310 from an oilless model, and why you should probably steer clear of oilless ones. I also tell you one important specification when shopping for a vacuum pump, and I go through some of the basics on operating them.
The Robinair 15310 works perfect for stabilizing wood, and it was suggested to me by Curtis Seebeck, the authority in stabilizing. I purchased mine on Amazon.
Big thank you to Curtis Seebeck over at www.turntex.com!! I rely on his expertise when it comes to the art and science of stabilizing wood and the equipment used to do it.
His chambers and Cactus Juice stabilizing resin are the best on the market what I use. They are available for purchase on his website: http://www.turntex.com Tell him I sent you.
