Changde, known as "Wuling" and "Langzhou" in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province. Located in the north of Hunan, west of Dongting Lake in the south of the Yangtze River, and at the foot of Wuling Mountain, it is historically known as "the throat of Sichuan and Guizhou, the gateway to Yunnan and Guizhou". The city's total area is 18,200 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh census in 2020, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the city's resident population was 5.2791 million.
Located in the northwest of Hunan Province, Changde is a famous "land of fish and rice" in the south of the Yangtze River. It is located in the Dongting Lake water system in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the lower reaches of the Yuanjiang River and the lower reaches of the Li River, as well as the northeastern end of the Wuling Mountains and the Xuefeng Mountains. Changde City is adjacent to the West Dongting Lake in the east, interlaced with Nanxian County in Yiyang City and the lake branch in Yuanjiang City; in the west, it leans on the western Hunan Mountains, and inherits the Wuling Mountains winding in Cili County, Yongding District of Zhangjiajie City and Yuanling County of Huaihua City; To the north, it is located in the mountains of western Hubei and the Jianghan plain, and is connected to the mountains of Hefeng County, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hubei Province, Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County, Yichang City, and the plains of Songzi City, Gongan County, and Shishou City in Jingzhou City. The mountains are the watershed between Changde City and Ziyang District, Taojiang County and Anhua County of Yiyang City.
Changde belongs to the center of the rise of the central part of China's economy. It is located at the junction of the Pan-Pearl River Delta and the Pan-Yangtze River Delta economic development region. Changde City has formed leading industries such as tobacco, aluminum, electric power, food, paper, textile, machinery, building materials, medicine, and electronics, and has built 11 county-level industrial parks including Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone and Jin Industrial Park.
In 2020, Changde City will achieve a regional GDP of 374.91 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9% over the previous year; of which, the added value of the primary industry is 46.46 billion yuan, an increase of 4.1%, and its contribution rate to economic growth is 10.4%; the secondary industry has increased The value is 154.37 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7%, and its contribution rate to economic growth is 53.2%; the added value of the tertiary industry is 174.08 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1%, and its contribution rate to economic growth is 36.4%.
