In the theory of general relativity, the curvature of spacetime is a curved spacetime caused by a massive object, and the curvature effect on that object is called gravity. So, locally, spacetime curves around objects that have mass. It can also be caused by gravitational waves (ripples in space-time) produced by astrophysical events such as star collisions, which cause small changes in gravity and stretch and shorten distances on Earth.
