Dr. John Chen, a Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, shares insights from his article appearing in the February 2023 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where he and his colleagues found using a large population-based study that cerebrospinal fluid protein can vary significantly among individuals. Elevated cerebrospinal fluid protein was independently associated with older age, male sex, and diabetes and is often higher than the normal cutoff’s listed in many laboratories. Dr. Chen’s findings emphasize the necessity of evidence-based reevaluation and standardization of cerebrospinal fluid protein metrics. Available at: https://mayocl.in/3uXGcCd
