A recently announced program is allowing students to earn Google Career Certificates in IT and data analytics.

“It's really an opportunity to gain some of the resources we need to serve more young adults, to scale our program more,” according to Gerald Chertavian, founder and CEO, Year Up.

Year Up provides no-cost training to underserved young adults that leads to internships and jobs.

Chertavian continues, “We look at anything creative that ultimately can be linked to sustainable, scalable growth that will always serve our students.”

WorkingNation sat down with Chertavian at the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego.

Year Up is also a key player in OneTen which is working to advance a million Black talent into good jobs over 10 years.

“We would describe a good job as a job that you can sustain yourself and your family on. The average family income in this country is $53,000 so we would look for jobs that are paying more than that. Where you can start to raise a family, take care of a family, and not have to trade off on basic necessities – gasoline, medicine, or the occasional night out to see a movie. Those shouldn’t be tradeoffs.”
